Among Giants – Spring 2024 Leadership Transition
My family and I have been a part of Troop 16 for 757 days, since April 4, 2022 when my son, Tanner, crossed over from Pack 290. Since then, I have witnessed the ideals and principles of the Scout Oath and Law put into practice in ways to develop you young men as leaders.
My son chose a boy-led Troop, and I am thankful each and every day for that choice. Not only that, but he chose Troop 16. What I’ve bore witness to since that fateful day in 2022 is nothing short of outstanding. When it comes to leadership, in this Troop we are surrounded by giants.
The leadership exuded daily by these young men is a testament to each of their character and has been further sharpened based on the bond they share with each other, the contributions of our community of adult volunteers and mentors, and the most impactful of all, the parents and families that support our Scouts. Leadership giants, each in their own right.
From running multiple activities that teach new Scouts skills at camp outings, to budgeting and preparing a full weekend of meals for Scouts and adults, teaching the complex rules of the Mao card game, to showing no hesitation to diving into waters to help a fellow Scout…
I am so honored to be amidst our transitioning adult volunteers, the young men we’ve celebrated tonight as graduating and beginning their journey into adulthood, as well as those high caliber young men that are still growing into their full potential. You all are prime examples not only of what Scouting is all about, but also a reflection of your family’s love and support.
So please remember this night as we’ve gathered together to celebrate all the accomplishments earned, memories made, and leaders forged.
Scouts, remember the Scouts who have ventured the path before you, your parents and families who stand strong behind you to support you, and your fellow Scouts who are still walking the path beside you. Remember Scouts, no matter where you look, you are surrounded by support and mentors that make up the past, present, and future of Troop 16. You are surrounded by giants. Each of you has limitless potential, and these giants stand ready to support you. I can’t wait to see the giants I know each of you will become.
