Scoutmaster's Minute

A Summer of Service

Scouts, summer is a time of sunshine, adventure, and freedom. School’s out, and the days stretch long and wide with possibility. But here’s something I want you to carry with you, no matter where you go: the spirit of service.

One of the things we promise as Scouts is to “help other people at all times.” That doesn’t stop when the meetings pause or the tents are packed away. In fact, summer is one of the best times to put that part of the Scout Law into action.

It can be as simple as mowing a neighbor’s lawn, carrying groceries for someone at the store, or helping your little sibling with something they’re struggling with. It could be volunteering at a food pantry, helping out at a summer camp, or picking up trash at a park—even if no one asks you to.

Helping others doesn’t always have to be big or planned. It just has to be real.

So this summer, I challenge each of you to be the Scout who sees the need before it’s spoken. Be the one who steps up, who lends a hand, who makes someone’s day a little better—just because you can.

Because that’s what being a Scout is really about. Not just wearing the uniform, but living the values. Even when no one’s watching. Especially then.

Enjoy your summer. And make it count.
