Scoutmaster's Minute

Storms Will Come

Scouts, I think we can all agree the “storm” we just faced tonight was no joke. Some tents stayed bone dry. Others… well, let’s just say a few Scouts are glad we weren’t actually sleeping out there.

But there’s a lesson in what we just experienced. Storms—real ones and life’s metaphorical ones—are going to come. And next week, for a lot of you, a new school year begins. That’s a storm in its own way: new classes, new challenges, maybe new friends or situations that test you.

The tents that stood strong tonight weren’t lucky. They were prepared. Every stake was driven deep. Every guy line was tightened. Every rain fly was secure. That preparation made all the difference when the pressure was on.

The same is true for you as school starts. If you’ve built good habits—showing up ready, paying attention, doing your best—you’ll be steady even when the “storms” hit. And if you let things slide? Well, you saw what happens.

So as you head into the new school year, think about tonight’s test. Be the Scout who sets their life up as carefully as their tent. Because when the storms come, you’ll be ready—and you’ll stay dry.
